Insulating the roof space of your home is the simplest, most cost-effective way of saving energy and reducing your heating bills
Heat from your house will rise resulting in about quarter of the heat generated being lost through the roof of an uninsulated home.
Insulation should be applied to the loft area to a depth of at least 270mm, both between the joists and above as the joists themselves create a "heat bridge" and transfer heat to the air above.
With modern insulating techniques and materials, It is still possible to use the space for storage or as a habitable space with the use of insulated floor panels.
The Energy Saving Trust estimates that an annual saving of £250 is achieved on an average detached house in the UK.

Simply by insulating your loft to the recommended depth of 270mm you can save wasted energy and money.
A standard loft insulation installation comprises not only of the fitting of the loft insulation, but also the bringing up to Building Regulations standards, the lagging to the cold water tanks and the pipes at no additional cost. This means that there is no possibility of any pipes or tanks bursting during cold weather and the job is well done.
Your loft hatch will also be draught proofed and insulated where possible. Loft insulation is a barrier of material within your roof space. It can either be laid between the joists
(the horizontal beams along the floor of your attic) or the rafters (the angled beams that support the roof).
Either way, it slows down the transfer of heat between your living space and the outside world, creating a warmer home in winter and a cooler one in summer. Insulation between the joists keeps warmth in your living space below and creates a cold loft, while insulation in the rafters allows you to keep warmth in the roof space as well.

Underfloor Heating is not for every household, many of the newer builds have a concrete base and therefore cannot be improved without expensive and very messy removal of existing materials, if you have a basement, cellar or suspended floor beneath your property then its almost certain you will qualify.
